In my experience, I would say that when I was a lecturer in college, we used to concentrate more on practical issues rather than bookish knowledge.
But ultimately at the end, co-relation with what we studied with books will be done.

For me, teaching is not banging books on the student everyday, but it is digestion of the available knowledge given the books.
I would like to co-relate teacher with a vehicle, which means, that A Teacher acts as a vehicle for a student to provide the ride of knowledge from books as well as practical life to the inner voice of a student.
And this itself is a very essential part for a teacher, which is to be digested by the teacher itself first and then should be expected from student.
Teaching techniques are like studying duration will be minimum with maximum utilization of time.

But going to their place, I feel quiet uncomfortable and I may prefer to charge more also depending upon the distance from my place.
