About Kimberly
I am a certified teacher in Louisiana and Texas. I was born and raised in Louisiana, but I have lived in Texas for the last two years. I am certified special education (EC-12), early childhood (Pre-K-2), core subjects with STR (4-8), core subjects with STR (EC-6), and english as a second language (EC-12). I have a bachelor's and master's in education. I have over 20 years of classroom experience. I have taught grades pre-k, pre-k autistic, kindergarten, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 8th grade science.
I love teaching and can't see myself doing anything outside of education.

I begin by building a relationship with my students. Then I assess the student to see what they need. Then I tailor my lessons towards those skills. I focus on phonological and phonemic awareness skills. These foundational skills are important for future reading success.
Skills included are:
Phoneme blending and segmentation practice
Accuracy and automaticity of grapheme-phoneme correspondences
Decoding automaticity of words with previously learned concepts
Explicit introduction of new concepts
Decoding and encoding practice
Reading and spelling irregular words
Reading and spelling connected text
The skills are taught in a sequential manner that builds upon the previously taught skill.
I believe learning should be fun, so through it all, I incorporate songs and videos related to skills being taught.
