About Miguel

I am a big supporter of the idea that not all students are compatible with all teachers. Throughout my school trip I had different teachers, with their different methods, teaching similar disciplines, and I always felt that my learning, my dedication, my achievement and above all my interest in the subject changed drastically with different teachers . A proof of this theory is the reasonably frequent example of a driving apprentice who has serious difficulties with a certain driving maneuver and after weeks and weeks trying with one instructor to improve this maneuver, decides to switch to another instructor, who in five minutes shows him same maneuver, in the same way, with the same explanation and get the learner to make the maneuver (and yes, I went through this situation: p). What I mean by this is that sometimes the difference between understanding a word or not is in listening to it in a different voice. It sounds a bit simplistic, but I truly believe that sometimes the idea of a "refreshing start" (which could well be a title of a modern movie) can subtly make the difference between learning or not, or at least creating a path toward success. In addition, in order not to appear to believe that teachers are incompetent, which is not at all true, with few exceptions, I think that a large part of young people's failure, especially in the 2nd and 3rd cycle, is not exclusively, of course, must for two great reasons, which in the end, converge in the same. Students are overloaded during class. Classes of, for example, an hour and a half, of subjects as demanding mentally as repetitive, example of mathematics, in days of classes from 8:30 to night, are simply very difficult for a student to pay his individual and total attention. This leads to that, and who is a student can dispute but will agree with me, when a teacher asks the fateful question "Any doubt?" the general answer is a chorus of no-nons, and some indeed have no doubts, but a large percentage leave the class realizing zero. And the blame can not be attributed to the teacher, poor thing, will not squeeze doubts from the students, nor end up being entirely the students, is not always laziness or disinterest. Being an hour closed and sitting in a class listening to a person debit matter is far from sympathetic to a person's psyche, and not listening to a section of whole matter, you will not raise the doubt "Can you repeat it all over again?". It is the first step to lose matter. So I am a big fan of short breaks where students can get up and stretch their legs, which is important from a physiological point of view, is not only enjoyable, and decompress. The great times of student achievement are regularly at the beginning of classes, when they come fresh. And this is no longer just opinion.

I am a student of the 1st year of Clinical Physiology at the prestigious School of Health Technology of Coimbra, where I am frankly happy resident since September 2018. I finished 12th year with a final average of 14.8, which includes the average of Biology discipline of 16.7 (12th) and the Biology and Geology of 15.2 (10º / 11º). A little further back, I finished the 9th grade with a grade of 5 in Natural Sciences. A curious fact in my past school is to have finished in a single year the first and second year, which led me to complete high school at the age of 16. Back to the most recent, I spent a gap year between 2017/18, due to several reasons especially but not only academic (indecision) and economic. Because of the latter, I tried to find a job during that year, which was difficult because of my age, which repeatedly provoked mistrust of employers. Given this difficulty, and with little hope in a pre-academic job, I decided to repeat the 12th grade mathematics exam in an attempt to raise my final grade (without much success). During that year, and due to my monstrous free time that a secondary student is definitely not used to have, I tried various activities, such as the return to football, artisanal carpentry, and among others, school explanations. I had done it for a few months with a close friend in previous times with math, which although not my strongest discipline, I managed to raise her average by 2 values (11 to 13). Given this, I tried the explanations this year as something more serious. I did not follow many students, including family, friends, or even friends of the family / family of friends. Even though I have no more than 6/7 participants, I truly believe that the success I have had with them motivated me to explore my full potential in this chapter that has been to college.
