About Timothy

I’ve always had a deeply visual way of seeing life, and art has always been the way I articulate that perspective. I’ve never been interested in becoming overly commercial or accepting commissions simply for the sake of it. The work I choose to create has to resonate with who I am, what I’m experiencing, and what feels meaningful to me at that particular moment in my life.

Throughout my journey, I’ve supported so many students, helping them look beyond the obvious and discover what truly makes them stand out. For me, it has always been about recognising individuality, and helping people uncover the qualities that make their work unique… all while developing a strong, rigorous skill set in drawing and painting. I believe in the importance of learning to observe, analyse, and understand what we see, building a solid foundation in the practical and technical aspects of making art, rather than relying solely on abstraction or conceptualising ideas. For me, the two should inform and strengthen one another: a thoughtful, analytical understanding of the visual world can deepen and enrich an artist’s individual expression.

My teaching approach brings together sketchbooking, drawing, painting, mixed media, embroidered textiles, Visual Studies and Art History. Drawing on extensive teaching experience and a calm, supportive demeanour, I guide students through the creative process, helping them explore ideas, experiment with materials and develop their visual language. Through a considered balance of practical making, research and reflection, students gain a deeper understanding of their own creative process and learn how to develop initial ideas into resolved, meaningful final artefacts.
