About Marva
I am currently a Biology student at Cal Poly SLO and on the pre-med track, with the intention of going to medical school and becoming a doctor. Biology has always been my favorite subject at school and I want to inspire that same love I have in students that might be struggling with biology. I've always had great biology teachers that have helped me when I got stumped by concepts and couldn't figure problems out, and I want to be that person for other students.

I took and passed on-level and AP Biology (scored a 5). I know where students may get confused with the material because I was recently in their position myself. I like to ask questions when I'm teaching. Instead of simply explaining the concept, I like to ask students to explain what they know, and build on from there. I like to use mnemonics and draw processes out my hand to better explain concepts as well. During lessons, we'll check in on what is being covered in class and if there's any questions on what they're currently learning. Then we review the concepts, hone them, and do practice problems together until the concepts stick, ending the session with a short recap of our lesson and and answering any remaining questions. I am open to working with middle and high school students in any level of biology, including on-level, honors, or AP.
