About Zou

Hi everyone, you can call me by either Linghao, or Loe Laoshi. I come from a city in southern China - my hometown is famous for its spicy food and the historic residences of renowned writers️. Can you guess where it is?

I’m currently based in Montreal, Canada. I hold a Bachelor of Science from McGill University and a Master’s degree from USC, specializing in Biotechnology. During my nine years living in North America, I’ve made friends from all over the world🏻 and accumulated 2+ yrs of experience in Mandarin tutoring.

I’m deeply passionate about exploring different cultures, can you imagine the traces of 5,000 years of Chinese civilization have appeared in so many places? From the Rococo style in European architecture️ , and social etiquette in Southeast Asia🫂, to the craftsmanship in Japan and Korea️ - all of which carry the heritage of Huaxia civilization! If you’re a history buff or a culture enthusiast, you definitely don’t want to miss my classes!

With a minor in Cognitive Science, I truly understand the underlying language learning mechanism: that the brain doesn't learn a language through rote memorization. Instead, we should simplify complex grammar into easy-to-understand "building blocks"🟥, progressing step-by-step️.

If you are preparing for Chinese proficiency exams, here is my personal take on test prep:

YCT: Uses a fun "visual-graphic method" to spark language interest in younger learners

I never want my classes to be boring—during our sessions, we can:

I also frequently share Chinese stand-up comedy and pop songs with my students.
