About Catherine
Hi, I’m Catherine, a Malaysian Korean language tutor with several years of experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds and different proficiency levels.
As someone who learned Korean as a foreign language, I understand the challenges learners face — from mastering grammar and sentence structure to speaking naturally with confidence.
Having gone through this process myself, I am able to guide students with clear, structured, and relatable explanations that are easy to follow. I also share practical learning strategies and effective tips from a learner’s perspective, including proven techniques for TOPIK exam preparation, helping students study more efficiently and achieve better results.
Over the years, I have helped students achieve different goals, including improving their speaking skills, preparing for TOPIK exams, and learning Korean for daily communication or personal interest.
I have experience in interpretation across multiple languages, and as a Malaysian, I am able to teach and explain Korean in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Bahasa Melayu. This allows me to adapt to each student’s preferred language and helps them understand concepts more easily.
In addition, I am a passionate K-culture enthusiast who enjoys keeping up with the latest trends in K-pop, dramas, movies, variety shows, webtoon and even Korean lifestyle. I often incorporate these elements into my lessons to make them more engaging, relevant, and enjoyable, so learning never feels boring or outdated.
I believe that learning a language should be both effective and enjoyable. My goal is to create a comfortable and supportive learning environment where students feel confident to practice, make mistakes, and improve step by step.

My teaching approach is student-centered, structured, and highly interactive. As someone who learned Korean as a foreign language, I understand the common challenges learners face, and I focus on explaining concepts in a clear and practical way that is easy to understand.
I design customized lesson plans based on each student’s level, goals, and areas for improvement. My lessons cover all key aspects of Korean learning, including speaking, grammar, vocabulary, listening, and writing. I also support students preparing for TOPIK exams, as well as those learning Korean for communication or personal interest.
I place strong emphasis on practical usage and communication, helping students build confidence to speak naturally in real-life situations. Lessons are interactive and include guided speaking practice, structured explanations, and practical exercises. I also provide useful tips and strategies to help students learn more effectively and avoid common mistakes.
With my experience in multilingual interpretation, I am able to explain Korean clearly in English, Mandarin, and Bahasa Melayu, making it easier for students from different backgrounds to understand and progress more efficiently.
A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes.
I have several years of experience teaching Korean online to students of different levels, from beginners to intermediate learners, including those preparing for exams and those focusing on conversational skills.
My lessons are suitable for students of all ages, including adults and younger learners, who wish to improve their Korean for exams, work, travel, further study or personal interest.
