About Emily

I've been a peer tutor since I was in high school, but my passion truly grew in college. As a certified University tutor, I've tutored over 30 students at all different learning levels, all varying ages and backgrounds. I have experience tutoring in general chemistry lectures, laboratories, organic, analytical, and highschool chemistry. I provide all of my students with a copious amount of resources, as well as assignments between sessions in order to make sure they get as much practice as possible to achieve high marks and understand course content. I'm currently employed as an analyst at a pharmaceutical company, it has always been my dream to go back to school for my PhD and teach at the college level, but for now I am focusing on gaining more experience and keeping my love for teaching alive through tutoring.

About the lesson

Due to the rigor of the courses I tutor for, I expect a decent amount of work outside of tutoring hours from my students. I provide substantial resources for students, as well as assign them with additional practice problems to be completed by the next session. I will provide an answer key for students to check their work so that they can come to the next session knowing their strengths and weaknesses. Each individual learns at their own pace, in their own way. Based on the student's needs/weaknesses I prepare organized lesson plans, but I ask that if students have homework or exams that I receive copies of syllabi as well as the textbook being used for the course.

I met Emily through a friend who used her as a tutor the semester prior. I had failed my first exam in C341 and was averaging low B’s high C’s on weekly quizzes before we met. I ended up with an A- in the course thanks to Emily. She provided me with lots of practice problems that I needed to complete at least 24 hours before each meeting. I would check my answers against the answer keys she provided and let her know what gave me the most trouble. Every meeting she had an organized lesson plan focusing on the subjects that I struggled with the most. It can be overwhelming at first because she gives a lot of outside work but its well worth it for a good grade in the course. My schedule was whacky but she always made time to meet with me before exams even if it meant staying on campus until early morning. I kept her as a tutor for C342 and C343 I received a B+ in lab and an A in orgo 2. If you're struggling with orgo and are willing to go the extra mile she worked wonders for me and my GPA.
