About Carlos

Born in Bogota, Colombia, I was always surrounded by beautiful things. My grandfather's house in the countryside was a good escape from the city. Nature has been a good part of my life since early on. My father is a Photographer, Art Director and a great Painter. He is one of my greatest influences, maybe the biggest because he taught me to never follow, copy or be influenced but to be true and pure to what comes from inside, to only create something I can admire. I graduated from high school in 1994, I started working and going to Community College, in Miami, where I graduated as a Photographer with a minor in design. After that, I worked in my field for a long time until I decided to start teaching 9 years ago, I lived in Philadelphia for 15 years. Art has always been an escape from the incoherence of this life. It makes more sense because I am able to leave my feelings on the paper. I hope people see their own feelings in my pictures along with some of mine. I enjoyed college a little more than I expected, more so because my teachers let me explore my art by guiding me with their experience. At the end I got very close to them and learned a lot. My Art wants to be edgy but sometimes is very mellow. I like both sides of it. Sometimes things just work out. I never retouch my photos. I think the way we do it the first time is the most honest, even if it is not perfect. I love contrast, not only with light but colors and shapes, ripples in time that keep moving after they are printed on a piece of paper. I want to change the way people feel about light overall, be able to show them something new and help them understand or like art more. I'm a Photographer, love to talk about it and explain my programs. I'm very proud of all my classes and all the good influence art is in all of us. Will be very excited if I can get a Photography program. I'm really trying to bring a strong program that can show kids how many other exciting things they can discover in art. I love working in Photography, showing people that they can create and explore their imagination.
