About Matthieu

I have studied viola for the past 8 years, with 5 prior years of experience on the violin. I went the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, Texas and I am now a student at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University. I was 1st in the state of Texas in 2017 and I won 1st place in the 2019 HSPVA Concerto Competition.

About the lesson

I focus on the importance of a strong technical foundation through the use of exercises and scales. I tailor each exercise to each of my students and I encourage them to venture outside of their comfort zone . This is to help them push past their boundaries and explore music that they actually enjoy and that challenges them.

Perfect! Matthew was a terrific teacher! He was supportive, attentive and patient, and he helped my daughter get acquainted with the violin. Also punctual and responsible, so we could count on him at every meeting.

Perfect! My son, 11 yrs old, had his second lesson with Matthieu, and he finds Matthieu to be instructive, understanding, encouraging and kind. Matthieu is very knowledgeable and is a great match for my son especially because they both started with violin and added (or moved onto in Matthieu’s case) viola later on. Matthieu is delightful and easy to communicate with, and he also seems to be very patient and helpful with his students. We are very happy with Matthieu and would definitely recommend him as a tutor if you are looking for a great viola instructor.

I highly recommend Matthieu. We went to school together for three years, and he's helped me on multiple occasions. Not only is he a very experienced and talented violist, but he's a patient and perceptive teacher. He's focused on an efficient and organized style of playing, and his teaching definitely reflects that.
