Super tutor

David is one of the best tutors in Politics. They have a high-quality profile, verified qualifications, a quick response time, and great reviews from students!

About David

I have a degree in Political Theory & Institutions from Liverpool University - 1987, a PGCE, Wolverhampton 1988 and an MSc in Multimedia and Education from Huddersfield University in 2001. I was a full-time teacher for many years and the last eighteen were at Greenhead College where I still do occasional cover and tutorial work. This has allowed me to keep my teaching up to date. I have done supply work at two local sixth forms when they needed a politics teacher in the run-up to exams. The results were very good. I have taught on many courses and to different exams and boards as well as spending fifteen years as an examiner. This means I can help any student to improve their grade. I have an enhanced DBS certificate which is renewed annually.

About the lesson

Although I have retired from full-time education, I jumped early to enjoy life, I am still interested in teaching and learning and keen to help students do well in exams. Students find me friendly and helpful and I am always willing to take a flexible approach to education. I have been doing this for many years and have a long track record of excellent results. I can help students improve their grade whatever their starting point with the subject. I normally teach in one-hour blocks but can be flexible. I will answer questions and mark work between sessions. My approach is very exam focused and I use whatever is happening in politics as examples to do this. My aim is to make the sessions purposeful and interesting. If you search my name on Tutorful you will find some lovely reviews written by ex-students .

Perfect! My son sought support in preparing for his Year 12 Politics summer exams, and we were fortunate to find David as a tutor. David’s extensive knowledge and expertise in the subject were evident from the start. He tailored each lesson to focus precisely on the areas my son needed help with, ensuring that every session was both productive and relevant.

David consistently came well-prepared, bringing a range of excellent resources and materials that complemented the syllabus perfectly. My son found him to be not only extremely thorough in his explanations but also very approachable and friendly, which made the learning environment comfortable and engaging.

One of the standout aspects of David’s tutoring was his responsiveness, and his consistent encouragement really boosted my son’s confidence as he approached his exams.

We wholeheartedly recommend David as a tutor. His dedication and effective teaching methods have made a significant impact, and my son feels that it would be really beneficial to work with him again in Year 13.

David came to the rescue when I found myself without a politics specialist one term before A level exams in our sixth form college. To say he saved the day is an understatement. He worked tirelessly on both a one to one and whole class teaching programme where he was quickly able to ascertain gaps in knowledge and create bespoke materials for our students. Our students spoke very highly of David and responded extremely well to his teaching style. As a result the students gained some excellent results in their politics A level, grades I have no doubt they would have struggled to achieve without the input of David. He is an excellent tutor in both politics and sociology and I would highly recommend him. (S.Fawcett -Course Leader Sociology & Politics)

David is the most sincere, knowledgeable and reliable Politics tutor. He was the main reason as to why I improved so much with Politics- specifically in areas I lacked which was the structure of my essay writing, and general knowledge.

David was very straightforward both about what he thought I was capable of getting in my A level politics but also about the work I would have to do to achieve that. This meant I believed I could do better than I had previously thought and also gave me the motivation to put the work in to get that higher grade. Davids lessons are very informal and casual which helps create a more natural flow of conversation which I believe helped me retain information from the lesson more successfully. To summarize, before I started with David my last politics mock was a D, I started working with him and trusted the process and left college with an A in politics.
