About Takumi
I am a pianist, composer, arranger, and music educator based in Los Angeles. I hold a Master of Music from USC Thornton School of Music and a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music, where I studied both piano performance and composition.
I have worked with a number of students of different ages, levels, and musical backgrounds. My teaching experience includes private lessons, community music programs, public school settings, and summer faculty work at Berklee College of Music.
Alongside teaching, I work professionally as a collaborative pianist, composer, and arranger. I currently work with organizations including Colburn School and USC, and have previously held pianist roles with Boston Ballet, Harvard University, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and Berklee College of Music. I also write and arrange music for commissioned projects.
My background in classical music, jazz, composition, and dance accompaniment allows me to support students from many different musical paths. I value both strong musical foundations and personal expression, and I enjoy helping students find their own voice through music.

My lessons are personalized to each student’s goals, interests, and musical background. I teach piano, music theory, ear training, composition, arranging, jazz, and improvisation, and I welcome students from beginner to advanced levels.
I focus on building strong fundamentals while helping students develop their own musical voice. Depending on the student’s goals, lessons may include technique, repertoire, reading, harmony, rhythm, listening skills, improvisation, composition, or audition preparation.
My approach is patient, practical, and expressive. I want students not only to improve technically, but also to understand the emotions, stories, and musical choices behind what they play.
Lessons are available in both English and Japanese.
