About Adrian
With 6 years of chess teaching behind me, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for how this ancient game shapes young minds and sharpens adult intellects. I began as a tournament player and later transitioned into coaching, drawn by the satisfaction of helping others discover their abilities. I have trained students preparing for scholastic championships, casual hobbyists, and adult learners returning to the game. My coaching philosophy is centred on thoughtful improvement and fun. I tailor each session to the learner’s goals and pace. I use software to review games, physical boards for visualisation, and puzzles to improve tactical sharpness. I stress the importance of consistency, review, and reflection—chess, like life, is about learning from every decision. I find joy in watching my students progress, think deeper, and approach each position with curiosity. Whether you want to beat your friends, climb the online rankings, or enter real tournaments, I provide the knowledge, structure, and encouragement to help you succeed.

Chess lessons in Cardiff are focused on nurturing strategic thinkers through methodical learning and high-level practice. For beginners, I introduce the game with clarity and energy—covering the rules, piece movements, common tactics, and how to avoid early mistakes. We start with mini-games and puzzles to develop pattern recognition and decision-making. Every lesson builds confidence by celebrating milestones and reinforcing strengths. For intermediate players, we explore more sophisticated tactics such as double attacks, decoys, and sacrifices. Students learn to evaluate positions, plan multi-move strategies, and master basic opening systems like the Italian Game or Queen’s Gambit. I encourage students to play weekly games that we analyse together for learning and growth. Lessons also focus on time control and the psychological side of playing under pressure. Advanced learners delve into opening theory, complex middlegame themes, and advanced endgame studies. We work on annotating games, studying famous matches, and building a repertoire based on personal style. Each session is dynamic, combining logic, creativity, and critical feedback. My goal is to make students independent, confident players who can not only win but understand why they win.
