• Can you tell us about your first experience using a computer?

  I vividly recall the excitement of using my very first computer. The simple interface not only allowed me to interact with data and enjoy basic logic games but also ignited my curiosity about how machines operate. That early encounter laid the foundation for a lifelong passion: starting from understanding the fundamentals of computers, I gradually evolved toward exploring the intricate realms of machine learning and data analysis.

• What is the technological evolution that has marked you most and what will be, in your eyes, a turning point in this field?

  The transition from static computing to dynamic, data-driven decision-making is what truly marked my journey in technology. In the early days, computers were used for simple, rule-based tasks. Today, machine learning models can learn, predict, and automate processes in real time. Looking ahead, I believe the integration of explainable AI will serve as a crucial turning point. It will empower users with transparency, ensuring that data analysis not only drives innovation but also builds trust among its users.

• Explain your expertise, your interest in it and, more broadly, its importance in the computer world.

  My expertise lies in the fields of artificial intelligence and its subsets, like machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, and data analysis. These are rapidly evolving domains that are reshaping how businesses and society make decisions. I was drawn to these disciplines during my early experiments with algorithms, and over time, I've come to appreciate their immense potential for solving real-world problems, from predictive maintenance in manufacturing to personalized recommendations in digital media. In an era defined by data, the ability to extract meaningful insights is more vital than ever.

• Do so-called 'visionaries', such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg inspire you or do you have other role models?

  While I deeply admire visionaries like Gates, Jobs, and Zuckerberg for their groundbreaking work, I find inspiration in those who blend technical expertise with a drive for societal impact. Personally, I look up to pioneers in data science and machine learning, researchers who continuously push the boundaries of what is possible. Equally, I draw motivation from my own mentors and local innovators who demonstrate that impactful change often begins at the grassroots level.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  During my undergraduate studies, I took part in a project that involved analyzing large datasets to predict trends in energy consumption. Initially overwhelmed by the volume of data, I learned the power of preprocessing and feature engineering through trial and error. That experience not only honed my technical skills but also taught me an essential lesson: Every challenge is an opportunity to develop a more robust solution. This journey inspires me to encourage students to embrace complexity as a pathway to discovery.

• What would you say to an uncomfortable person in front of a screen who says that "IT is too complicated"?

  I understand that the landscape of data and technology can seem daunting at first. I always tell my students that every expert started as a beginner. By breaking down the fundamentals of machine learning into bite-sized lessons and offering plenty of hands-on practice, I show that anyone can learn these skills step by step. The key is persistence, curiosity, and a supportive learning environment-qualities that I strive to cultivate in my classes.

• What are your other passions, related or non-related to computers?

  Beyond my professional passion for technology, I enjoy photography and hiking. Photography allows me to capture intricate details of the world, a skill that surprisingly parallels the art of detailed data analysis. Hiking, on the other hand, is my way of recharging and finding clarity of thought, which often translates into creative problem-solving in my machine learning projects. These interests keep me balanced and enhance my approach to teaching by bringing real-world perspective into the technical domain.
