About Nosa
Nosa Umaigba is a visual artist whose work reflects a deep connection to his roots and a passionate exploration of identity through colour, texture, and form. Originally from Edo State, Nigeria, Nosa now lives and creates in Milton Keynes, United Kingdom. He holds a B.A. (Hons) in Fine Arts from the University of Benin, where his artistic journey formally began but never ceased to evolve. Under the moniker Paintings by Nosa, his art unfolds as a stream of consciousness—layered, emotive, and vibrant. Each piece offers a personal dialogue between tradition and modernity, merging the raw beauty of African life with contemporary visual storytelling. His use of oil on canvas and mixed media is striking, capturing the rhythms, rituals, and resilience of the African experience. Over the years, Nosa’s work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Nigeria, the UK, and the United States. Highlights include shows at his alma mater, University of Benin; Chevron Oil in Port Harcourt; “The Sojourner” and Getz Arena in Lagos; and international venues like the Building Block School for the Arts in Tennessee, USA. Notable collaborations include exhibitions with BNG Innovates in the UK and Henry Moweta Art Galleries. His recent showcases include Chronicles of a Craftsman (2014), presented in partnership with Terra Kulture and Freedom Park, Lagos; the Society of Nigerian Artists group show at Nike Art Gallery (2016); Drip Season (2019), a solo show in Lagos; and the dynamic Art Around group exhibition. Nosa draws inspiration from a wide range of artistic influences—realism, expressionism, and abstraction—infused with history, cultural diversity, spiritual depth, and his ever-evolving environment. His art invites viewers into a layered conversation: one that honours Africa’s past, celebrates its present, and dreams of its future. With every brushstroke, Paintings by Nosa becomes not just an artistic expression but a powerful celebration of African life—bold, beautiful, and deeply human.
