About Charlotte

Hello, my name is Charlotte and I am currently in the 2nd year of my undergraduate degree at the University of York!

I am a dedicated and professional GCSE English tutor with a strong understanding of what examiners are looking for and how to help students achieve their target grades. I take pride in delivering well-structured, engaging lessons that build both academic skill and genuine confidence.

My approach is calm, supportive, and highly organised. I understand that English can feel overwhelming for many students, particularly when preparing for exams. I break down complex ideas into clear, manageable steps and provide structured frameworks that make essay writing far less intimidating. Students are always guided, but also encouraged to think independently and develop their own analytical voice.

Professionalism is extremely important to me. Lessons are always carefully planned, punctual, and tailored to the individual. I provide constructive, detailed feedback and clear next steps so students (and parents) can see consistent progress. I also ensure students fully understand exam expectations, mark schemes, and effective revision strategies.

I work with GCSE students of all abilities, from those aiming to secure a pass to high-achieving students striving for Grades 8–9. My goal is not only to improve grades, but to help students feel confident walking into their exams knowing they are fully prepared.

Above all, I create a respectful and positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and challenging themselves.

About the lesson

Teaching Methodology & Techniques:
My teaching style is structured, supportive, and results-driven. I believe every student can succeed in GCSE English with the right guidance, clear strategies, and consistent practice. I focus on building both confidence and technical skill. My lessons are tailored to each student’s strengths, weaknesses, and target grade.

My approach includes:
- Breaking down exam mark schemes so students understand exactly what examiners are looking for
- Teaching clear, repeatable essay structures for Literature and Language
- Modelling high-grade responses and analysing why they achieve top marks
- Guided practice with live feedback and targeted improvements
- Developing analytical depth (zooming in on language, structure, and writer’s methods)
- Regular exam-style questions under timed conditions to build confidence

Lesson Length:
Lessons typically last for 1 hour, which allows time for teaching, practice, and detailed feedback. Longer 90-minute sessions are available for intensive exam preparation or higher-grade students aiming for 8–9.

Qualifications & Experience:
I have over 1 year of experience supporting students at GCSE level, helping them improve essay structure, analytical depth, and exam technique. I am familiar with major exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR) and understand how to teach directly to assessment objectives to maximise marks.
