About Anthony

Hi, I'm Anthony! I'm a science tutor specializing in Human Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology, with a passion for helping students understand challenging concepts and build confidence in their abilities.

I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry/Materials Science from UCLA and currently work as a tutor at Santa Rosa Junior College, where I help students with anatomy, physiology, and microbiology coursework, exam preparation, and laboratory material.

My interest in these subjects goes beyond tutoring. I've completed college-level courses in all three disciplines and continue studying human anatomy and physiology independently to deepen my knowledge. Having recently taken these courses myself, I understand firsthand how demanding they can be, especially for students preparing for nursing and other healthcare careers.

What I enjoy most about tutoring is seeing the moment when a difficult concept finally clicks for a student. I believe that science becomes much more approachable when students understand why and how things happen rather than simply memorizing facts.

I strive to create a friendly, patient, and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and working through challenging material at their own pace.

Whether you're trying to improve your grades, prepare for an important exam, or develop a stronger foundation in science, I'd be happy to help you reach your goals!

My approach to tutoring focuses on helping students truly understand science rather than simply memorizing information for an exam. I specialize in Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, and Microbiology, with an emphasis on making complex biological concepts easier to understand and apply.

---My Teaching Methods---

I use a combination of clear explanations, diagrams, real-world examples, practice questions, and active recall to help students build a strong foundation in the material. I encourage students to explain concepts in their own words, ask questions, and work through problems rather than passively listen to a lecture.

---What a Typical Lesson Looks Like---

Each session is tailored to the student's course, current understanding, and goals. A typical session might include:

1. Identify areas of difficulty: We start by discussing challenging topics, upcoming exams, or questions from previous assignments.
2. Review key concepts: I break down complicated processes into manageable steps, using diagrams and examples to illustrate how things work.
3. Practice and apply: We work through practice questions, study guides, or exam-style problems to reinforce understanding.
4. Check understanding: I use active recall and follow-up questions to identify remaining gaps in knowledge.
5. Plan next steps: We discuss what to prioritize when studying independently and how to prepare effectively for upcoming exams.

---What Sets Me Apart---

I hold a Bachelor of Science from UCLA and currently tutor Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology at Santa Rosa Junior College. Having completed these courses myself, I understand the challenges students face, particularly when preparing for demanding lecture exams and laboratory practicals.

My background in chemistry also allows me to explain the underlying principles behind physiological processes, cellular mechanisms, and microbiology concepts.

I believe effective tutoring involves more than providing the correct answers. My goal is to help students develop the reasoning skills and study strategies needed to succeed independently.

---Who My Lessons Are For---

I primarily work with community college and undergraduate students taking Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, General Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology (A&P I and II), and prerequisite science courses for nursing and allied health programs. I can also help students prepare for the Anatomy and Physiology portion of the TEAS exam.

Whether you're struggling with a particular topic, preparing for an upcoming exam, or looking to strengthen your overall understanding, I'll tailor our sessions to your needs.

My goal is for you to leave each session not only knowing more, but feeling more confident in your ability to learn and apply the material on your own.
