About Afnan
My interest in teaching comes from my own experience learning programming. When I first started, I found it difficult to find resources that were practical and focused on building real projects. Many courses spent too much time on theory and not enough on actually writing code and creating something meaningful.
As I progressed in my career and became a software engineer, I realised how valuable it is to work on real systems and how different it is from what we learn in school. That's what motivated me to start teaching. I've had the opportunity to help students learn programming from scratch, and one of the most rewarding parts of the experience has been watching them grow from complete beginners into confident developers capable of building their own applications.
Programming is more than just a profession for me, it's a craft that I genuinely enjoy. I love building products that solve real problems and improve people's lives, and I enjoy sharing that passion with others.

My lessons are designed for students who want to learn programming through hands-on practice, not passive lectures. You'll start writing code from day one without the endless slides or theory-heavy material. Whether you're starting from zero, studying computer science at school, or looking to build your own projects, each lesson will be tailored to your goals and experience level.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering with honours and am currently pursuing a Master's degree at UCL in the field. Alongside my studies, I have spent the last 5 years working as a professional software engineer, building and maintaining production systems used by hundreds of thousands of users.
My teaching style focuses on understanding concepts and how they work in a real-world system. We start with the fundamentals, then gradually apply them through exercises and projects. I've previously helped students with no programming background progress to building their own websites and applications independently.
I teach Java, Kotlin, Python, and web development basics (HTML, CSS, and Javascript). I can also help with deep understanding of programming fundamentals, object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and any related coursework or projects you might have.
Lessons are typically 60–90 minutes and include hands-on coding, guided practice, and personalised feedback. My goal is to help students become confident, independent programmers.
