About Lana
Hello, my name is Lana! I am a 16-year-old tutor with a passion for helping young students learn, grow, and build confidence in their academic abilities. I have experience working with young readers and enjoy creating a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable learning at their own pace.
Reading and English language arts are some of my strongest academic areas, and I love helping students improve their literacy skills through engaging lessons and personalized instruction. I also enjoy helping students develop problem-solving skills and confidence in their abilities.
My goal is to make learning enjoyable, positive, and rewarding for every student I work with. I believe that with patience, encouragement, and the right support, every child can succeed.

My tutoring sessions use a structured, phonics-based approach to help young readers build confidence from the ground up. Students learn to recognize letters, master letter sounds, blend sounds into words, practice reading beginner books, and strengthen comprehension through engaging activities and games. Every lesson is personalized to the child's pace, making reading fun while building a strong foundation for lifelong success.
A typical lesson begins with a quick alphabet and letter sound review to reinforce previous learning. We then practice blending sounds to read simple words before moving on to a beginner-level book where students can apply their skills in context. Throughout the lesson, I ask questions to encourage comprehension and critical thinking, helping students understand what they are reading rather than simply saying the words. We finish with a fun activity or game that reviews the skills learned that day and leaves the student feeling successful and excited to continue reading.
My lessons are designed for beginning readers, including preschool, kindergarten, first grade, and early elementary students who are learning letters, letter sounds, phonics, pronunciation, word blending, reading fluency, and basic reading comprehension. I also welcome students who need extra practice, additional support outside the classroom, or a confidence boost as they develop their reading skills.
