About Marissa
English is part of a fifteen-year tutoring career during which I have supported 760 students, from school pupils improving essay writing to adult learners refining fluency for professional purposes. My background includes years of vocal and violin training, which shaped my strong belief that disciplined, structured practice produces far more reliable results than sporadic effort, a principle I apply directly to writing instruction. I am thorough and demanding but genuinely invested in every student's long-term development rather than a single assignment grade. Many students arrive frustrated after slow progress elsewhere, and rebuilding a clear, structured sense of direction is usually my first priority. My English teaching after fifteen years relies on detailed diagnostic assessment, identifying exactly where a student's writing or comprehension needs the most focused attention before designing a targeted plan. Grammar review is always applied immediately to the student's own writing rather than taught through isolated exercises disconnected from real work. For exam preparation I use extensive timed practice essays followed by detailed structured review focused on argument clarity and precision. Vocabulary building happens through close reading of short passages and discussion of word choice, since isolated word lists rarely transfer into genuine writing improvement. Detailed long term progress records track recurring patterns in each student's writing across months of lessons.
