About Beryl
Hello and welcome! I hold a Master’s degree in Linguistics from Lancaster University in the UK, where I had the opportunity to study alongside classmates from countries such as the UK, Turkey, Indonesia, and Japan. This experience broadened my worldview and taught me to approach both teaching and life with an open and inclusive mindset. For the past 12+ years, I have been dedicated to teaching in China, where I obtained a University Teacher Qualification Certificate and taught College English and IELTS at the university level. As an experienced IELTS instructor, I have helped countless students master test-taking strategies and achieve excellent results. I have also taught phonetics and worked with learners ranging in age from 5 to 60 years old—guiding some from not knowing the alphabet or pinyin to being able to hold daily conversations with confidence. Seeing this progress has been one of my greatest sources of joy and motivation as a teacher. In my classes, I pay close attention to details, especially during the stages of vocabulary building and pronunciation practice. I believe that accurate pronunciation and strong foundations are essential for effective communication and long-term success in language learning. I also enjoy connecting with students, learning from their perspectives, and keeping my own sense of curiosity and lifelong learning alive. Meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds inspires me to continue growing as both a teacher and a learner. Currently, I am pursuing a Master of Teaching at Curtin University, where I am refining my teaching methods to better serve my students. With my professional training, international background, and passion for teaching, I am confident that I can support you in achieving your language goals—whether that is passing exams, improving communication skills, or discovering the joy of learning a new language.

This is the first time I’ve had mandarin classes, which impressed me most of Hui’s patience, rich teaching experience, I’d like to keep to my mandarin learning the next years.
The first time I took her class I found she could be very helpful with my pronunciation as she is sensitive to the minute mistake I made and then I could pronounce the words correctly after the instruction.
I like her classes as she could always sense the minute mistakes I made during my speaking practice with her and then I could obviously know what it is and make the corrections immediately then I could make the sound all good.
