About Alyssa

Hello!

My name is Alyssa and I was born and raised in San Diego, California. My main hobbies are rock climbing, practicing yoga, playing music, and learning more about overall health. I went to college to study Anthropology since I am passionate about people and culture. I plan on using my degree to start up my own non-profit someday to connect communities closer to nature. I love meeting new people from all over the world and learning new things. I decided three years ago that I wanted to teach English as a second language because I knew it would give me the opportunity to travel. Teaching English is a great fit for me since I have a lot of experience teaching kids of all ages. I enjoy the energy that young people bring and I am excited to bring fun activities into the classroom!

I was a preschool teacher for a year and we learned mostly through sensory experiences. I played lots of interactive games with the preschoolers. Music and dance were big parts of the lessons. I also tutored a 25-year woman from Ukraine for 5 months helping her with her communication skills. My methodology with older students is very student-centered. I like it when my students can ask questions and tell me the topics they are interested in learning.

About the lesson

I will design lessons to fit your specific needs and goals. My lessons are very interactive because I like to know that you are getting as much practice as possible. Our lessons will look like this:
1. We will get to know each other more through conversation and talk about our day.
2. Introduce new vocabulary
3. Go over the lesson
4. Spend time practicing new skills that we learned in the lesson.
5. Explain homework or next week's lesson.

Perfect! Alyssa is very flexible in terms of teaching style. She is patient and try to understand what exactly I'm looking for from the class/session and she would adjust her teaching methodology (customize to my specific needs). She is also great at picking up the issues with my pronunciation, which is hard to detect in some cases but she can detect it as she listens carefully (if she didn't get it in the first time, she would ask me to repeat until she gets it right).

She is also a pleasant to work with, easy going, friendly.. etc.
