About Alison
I am a fully qualified History Teacher with 6 years of experience in schools. I have started tutoring part time since transitioning into a University based role in student recruitment. In my day job I now travel to different 6th Forms and Colleges to support students applying for Higher Education. However, I still love my subject, creating resources and teaching.

I have an excellent track record of working with both students who thrive in History, or find it a very challenging subject. As a qualified teacher, I create and adapt lesson materials to suit the needs of individual students and have multiple strategies in my toolkit to support learning both content and exam technique. I work with students to regularly review their contextual knowledge and confidence, identify gaps and effective revision techniques. I believe in building up students' confidence with a can-do attitude and practice makes perfect. Apart from working together in booked sessions, I will also expect students to complete small assignments in their own time such as practice questions which I will mark for them. This is to build up their confidence in independent working, ensure meaningful feedback, and track their progress. However, this is conscientiously balanced with their existing school work so pupils never feel overloaded.
My own degree (BA in History & International Relations) has given me a strong background in numerous historical topics and time periods, as well as politics. For example I particularly enjoy teaching material on the Medicine through time, the Norman Conquest, Tudors, the French Revolution, Tsarist/Communist Russia, the Treaty of Versailles, Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, The Cold War.
Whilst teaching A-Level in schools, I had several students who became successful Oxbridge applicants. I have also written recommendations for students interested in pursuing History at American Universities or applying for College after GCSE.
In addition to an initial meet and greet at no cost, I believe that the first lesson should come at a discounted rate of £20/hour as a 'taster' before you decide if my approach is the right fit for you.
Thereafter, I offer lessons bookable 1-2 hours in length, at £50/hour for GCSE, £55/hour for A-Level. KS3 - £40/hour.
