About Renata

My name is Renata Carlomagno, I am Brazilian and currently living in Scotland. I have been working professionally in theatre continuously since 2011. Since 2015, I have developed my path as an actress-researcher, focusing on physical theatre and its various approaches. I hold degrees in Letters and Dramatic Arts, and my work draws essential inspiration from artists and groups such as Lume Teatro, Jerzy Grotowski, Eugenio Barba, Odin Teatret, Tatsumi Hijikata, Tadashi Endo, and Kazuo Ohno, among others.

In Brazil, I am part of a physical theatre research group guided by the British actress Naomi Silman, affiliated with Lume Teatro, a group with 41 years of experience in physical theatre research. The group I belong to has been conducting its own research for 10 years, enriching my practice and deepening my understanding of body-based theatre.

I have a solid background in teaching, working as an instructor since 2011. From 2018 onwards, I also began developing online classes, which allowed me to explore and deepen the potential and specificities of both in-person and remote learning. In parallel, I am a student of Psychoanalysis and Psychodrama, disciplines that inform my perspective on the body, attentive listening, and creative processes, enriching both my artistic practice and pedagogical approach.

About the lesson

In this one-on-one course, I guide the student through the principles of physical theatre, exploring how the body can become a powerful tool for expression, presence, and creativity. I am highly attentive to each student, offering a professional and supportive approach that creates a safe and welcoming environment, where the student feels comfortable to explore and express themselves, discovering their own unique expressive potential through the body.

The classes draw on techniques from physical theatre pioneers such as Luis Otávio Burnier, Lume Teatro, Jacques Lecoq, Grotowski, Butoh, and clowning, as well as my own eleven years of individual research and practice. The focus is on developing body awareness, movement quality, and expressive range, helping the student connect more deeply with themselves and their presence in space.

This is a practical and transformative course designed for adults, ideal for anyone seeking to expand their expressive abilities, deepen their understanding of performance techniques, and explore theatre in a personal, tailored way.
