About Melissa

Hello, My name is Melissa. I'm a native English speaker living in Christchurch, New Zealand. I'm a qualified teacher with a Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching. I also have a Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Management, as well as a Diploma in Creativity. I have experience working in Montessori education with children between the ages 6 and 9. Specifically, I worked helping children with dyslexia to read and write. I have knowledge of the Davis Dyslexia program. I recently worked as an after-school Art and Creativity teacher. In this role, I taught fun and creative arts and crafts projects to children between the ages 6 and 10. When I teach English online, I choose topics based upon your interests. If you happen to enjoy arts and crafts, I am happy to include some creative inspiring activities in your lesson programs. I have over three years of experience teaching children.

About the lesson

When I'm teaching English online I have a gentle patient approach and I like to use inquiry-based learning as much as possible. I'll choose topics based upon your interests. If you happen to enjoy arts and crafts, we can even integrate this into your lesson program. Whatever the area you wish to focus on, whether it be grammar, speaking, reading, or writing, I'll ensure that you will steadily improve your skills. I'm a qualified Primary School Teacher and would love to use my training and skills to teach children (aged 6 years old and above) to read and write. I can help those children with English as a first language or those who have English as a second language and are already fluent English speakers but need help specifically with reading, comprehension, and writing. Even though I'm qualified as a primary teacher, and love to teach children, I'm also looking forward to teaching adults too. My teaching style for adults English speaking is more conversational and lessons will be based on topics that interest you. The typical length of a lesson is 50 minutes.
