About Tristan

I’m a classical saxophonist and clarinettist, studying at the Guildhall School of Drama and Music. I also work with flute, jazz, and composition. I’ve done lots of playing in a variety of contexts, from orchestral and jazz big band playing, to solo work, choirs and smaller ensembles, so you can be sure that I can tailor lessons to you, drawing from a wide range of experiences. I’ve been teaching 1-on-1, and directing ensembles for a few years, and have a passion for helping students both to progress as musicians, whilst enjoying the music they make. I’m here to help you foster your interests, whatever they may be, and achieve your goals.

About the lesson

Whether you or your children are just starting, working towards a grade, have been playing for a while, or are starting conservatoire audition preparation, I can help you to make progress in the areas most important to you. For me, this is about enjoying and bettering the music you make. Improvement and progress are important, but they should never come at the expense of enjoyment. I specialise in clarinet and (any) saxophone, but I can also tutor for GCSE and A-level music, having sat those exams and scored a 9 and A* respectively, as well as ABRSM theory up to grade 5. I’m a very relaxed teacher, with plenty of experience in both 1-to-1, and ensemble tutoring in a school environment. Lessons are £30 per hour, and if you have any queries, please do get in touch.

Tristan tutored me on the saxophone from beginner level during my school production of Guys and Dolls. Not only was he patient and supportive at all times, but he also went above and beyond to make the lessons productive and worthwhile. I progressed hugely in the 5 months of teaching, getting to around grade 4/5 level by the end (I did have a background in music beforehand). I would wholeheartedly recommend Tristan as a teacher to anyone wishing to learn the saxophone. You can be sure he will deliver the best quality of teaching possible.
