About Rachel
I am a special education assistant for the Ames Community school district for kindergarten through fifth grade, assisting students in math, reading, writing, social studies, and science classes, many of whom are on the autism spectrum. After hours, I tutor ESL in early reading and writing. I have also tutored kindergarten through 3rd grade in the Ames district specifically in phoneme blending, phoneme segmenting, letter sounds, letter names, blending words, fluency, reading speed, and reading comprehension.

I take a heavy phonics-based approach to lessons where early language arts skills are needed, paired with the Reading Corps tutoring model. In my lessons I will use plenty of repetition to allow the student to fully absorb the content needed and to insure very few gaps in the student's knowlege. I also offer homework help in all subjects for students kindergarten through eighth grade.
