About Fr

Learning German was something I stumbled into. I always knew how important the language was, but never got around to studying it until college and grad school, and even then the place where I learned it was not in the States, but in Germany and Switzerland. Little did I know at the time, but that would be the first greatest thing that could ever happen to me.

What learning my German there did for me was to save me from learning German with a tell-tale American accent. Even so, when I eventually came back to America after grad school, unbeknownst to me, but because I am an American, I still had some of that American accent. Because I was teaching in German at the time, I knew that I had to get rid of even the slightest traces, so that I could be accepted as a native.

This is when my second big break occurred. I was lucky enough to be good friends with a native professional German professor who promised to eliminate my German accent by reworking it from the ground up. At first, this seemed like an unnecessary waste of time for me - after all, I was already teaching in German! In reality, however, it was the second best thing that happened to me because through this professor I am now regarded by native German speakers as one of them.

It is this background and this approach that I will bring to our sessions together, enabling you to experience great progress towards achieving your goals, whatever they are!

About the lesson

Native German speakers are impatient with non-native speakers because they are convinced that their English is better than your German! As soon as they hear your American accent they will immediately switch to English to improve their English, depriving you of your opportunity to improve your German! The problem is that almost everybody who has learned German in American has a unconcealable American accent!

To learn to speak German like a native, I will rebuild your German from the ground up with the correct German pronunciations. Because our focus is on speaking with the correct accent, your progress towards speaking like a native will be rapid. Once you know the fundamentals, you will then be able to apply them yourself in all of your speaking, very quickly becoming like a native German speaker.

All of the lessons are tailored to fit your current German speaking level and your specific interests and reasons for wanting to improve your ability to speak German.
