About Claire

I'll be upfront and say this website/program is completely new to me, but I have been tutoring friends and coworkers in Spanish for almost 5 years. I graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Spanish, and minor in Linguistics, and a TESOL certificate. For those of you who may not know what that is, it is a certificate that permits me to teach English to speakers of other languages. After I graduated college, I moved to Zamorano, Francisco-Morazan, Honduras to teach 1st and 2nd grade at Good Shepherd Christian Academy. I teach all subjects in English and spend my spare time practicing my Spanish. I would definitely consider myself a student of language as well, because although I am able to speak, I am still working towards a goal of bilingualism and language is always changing! I do not want to wait till I am an expert in every area to share what I know. I have lived in Honduras now for almost a year and a half and my language abilities have drastically improved. I am passionate about language acquisition, specifically Spanish, and would love to help you better understand and love this beautiful language.

About the lesson

Hi friend! My name is Claire and I am looking to help people of all ages meet their personal goals with the Spanish language. Whether that's to converse more fluidly, understand grammar to pass a test, or write story, I want to meet you where you are. The best way for me to help you is for you to communicate to me your needs to me upfront (i.e. conversation practice, verb tenses, grammar, writing/spelling). Everyone's needs in language acquisition are different and linguists arrive at bilingualism on a number of different paths. The better you can communicate to me your specific struggles with the language, the better I can help you! I completely understand the vulnerability and complexity of language acquisition, so let's move at whatever pace feels most comfortable to you. I am a huge advocate for making language learning a safe space to make mistakes. Please know that I am the kind of teacher who invites mistakes - it shows a willingness to try and an opportunity for better understanding!

**If you are a student of Mississippi State University or The University for Women (The W) in Columbus, I do NOT charge for gas!**

If you are not a student, it is $5 flat rate for travel costs to areas at a distance of 10 miles or less. After 10 miles, each additional mile is $0.50.
