About Carlos
As a teacher and a tutor, I benefit from constantly improving and deepening my familiarity with Spanish countries, cultures, and their peoples. I use my own Spanish skills almost daily, even when reading a newspaper. I have been a student myself for more than 20 years. Furthermore, I use a flexible, unique and effective teaching style that draws on my academic background, my study abroad experiences in Spain and Cuba, my tenure as a government embassy staff member in Peru, and my trips to other countries in Latin America. I take care to help my clients set clear goals, creating a system of accountability and progress that builds on our achievements from one session to the next. As someone who had many great teachers along the way, I cannot wait to pass some of that knowledge on to my students!

When it comes to my methods and techniques, I believe in helping my students adapt to the unique cultures they will encounter, many of which I am familiar with myself. Every country and its people have their own dialects, slang, vocabulary, food and art, so I like doing some extra research to bring the Spanish language directly to my students. In a typical lesson, depending on the prior experience of the student, I strive to help my students set ambitious but achievable goals, build on their background knowledge of the Spanish-speaking world, and expand their grammar and vocabulary so that they feel confident starting some great conversations! My lessons can benefit anyone curious about Spanish and how it can improve their own lived experience. Because I was born in the United States, I understand the challenges of learning a new language but I also know how rewarding the process really is. Ready to get started?
