About James

I am a recent Spanish Literature and Language graduate at MA level, of the University of St Andrews. Alongside my studies, I have relished teaching a variety of subjects at a range of academic levels for 5 years and I love teaching.

Having studied Spanish for 10 years, I have also worked and lived in a number of Spanish speaking countries. These include, Argentina for a year where I taught English to a class of 11 year old's on a daily basis in Buenos Aires; I have also worked within the tourism world and lived in Madrid and Santiago de Compostela over the course of two respective summers. Therefore, my first-hand knowledge of the subtle differences between different Spanish dialects is proficient.

About the lesson

Key points:

I pride myself in being efficient and empathetic with students of all competencies.

Empowering the student with an ability to apply knowledge is my ultimate goal.

My relevant tutoring virtues are are assimilating, simplifying and explaining complicated topics that a student may find challenging grasp, initially.

I am highly adaptable to the personality traits and confidence levels of a given student.

By establishing a balance between being a student's teacher and confidant, I can garner the trust and respect necessary for improved academic performance.

I have access to all syllabuses up to and including university degree level.

Example class structure [1 hour class]:

i) 5 minute recap of relevant points in previous class (if the student is previously known)...OR...5 minute personal introduction to put the student at ease, if this is a new student.

ii) 5 minute outline of key concepts and issues that will be dealt with in the lesson.

iii) 20/30 minute simplified explanation of these areas.

iv) 20/30 minute run-through of exam-style questions on these topics with 'model' answers explained, once attempted.

v) 5/10 minute summary period, with any final questions answered.

The structure of the class is dependant on the academic level, demands and type of prospective student.
