About Celine
I am a singing tutor with 8 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Jazz Performance. I have worked with over 270 students spanning musical theatre hopefuls, recording artists, church soloists, and adults who want to stop being the only person who does not sing at family gatherings. My jazz performance background means I place unusual emphasis on the rhythmic and harmonic dimensions of singing, and students trained in my studio consistently describe their sense of groove and melodic phrasing as exceptional compared to peers. I have developed a specific program for students who believe they are tone-deaf — which is a diagnosis given far too readily — and have had remarkable success helping these students discover that their pitch problems were technical rather than physiological. I perform regularly as a jazz vocalist and this continued performing life keeps my teaching current and honest.

My singing studio is built around the conviction that every voice is already unique and that my job is not to impose a sound but to remove the obstacles preventing the student's natural voice from coming through fully. I open each new student relationship with an extended vocal exploration session — no songs, no exercises, just free vocalizing in different ranges and registers — because this reveals far more about a voice than any formal assessment. Breath management is my first and most persistent technical priority, but I teach it through movement rather than instruction — walking, swinging the arms, releasing the jaw — because singers who understand breath through their body grasp it more lastingly than those who learn it intellectually. My approach to belting is medically informed and always prioritizes vocal health: I teach chest voice extension using compression techniques that protect the voice while developing power rather than simply encouraging louder singing. Mix voice is introduced as a blending concept — students learn to feel the sensation of shifting registration and gradually control the point at which the blend tips in either direction. I use vocal mapping — having students draw their own voice on a diagram — to build somatic awareness of register transitions and resonance placement. Performance work in my studio begins well before a student is technically ready by conventional standards, because the experience of being in front of an audience teaches things no lesson can replicate and the earlier students begin performing the less frightening it becomes. Song choice in my teaching is treated as a diagnostic question — the songs a student is drawn to reveal where their artistic instincts live, and I use this information to personalize the technical curriculum. Students receive audio recordings of every lesson so they have an objective reference point for their development. My most important teaching goal is a student who trusts their voice completely.
