About Zayd

Hi, I’m Zayd, a software engineer at Capital One with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Michigan State University. My coursework included Calculus I, II and III, Statistics, Data Structures and Algorithms, and Machine Learning, so I’ve used math as a working tool, not just as a school subject.

Teaching isn’t new to me. For a year and a half I was an Undergraduate Learning Assistant at Michigan State, where I mentored more than 500 students. I led lab sessions, reviewed their code, helped them debug, and explained difficult programming concepts until they clicked. That experience taught me how to spot where a student is stuck and how to explain the same idea in more than one way.

I also bring real industry experience. I currently work as a software engineer at Capital One, where I write code every day to build the systems behind one of the largest banks in the country. Before that, I completed two internships at Roblox, where I helped build a multiplayer game prototype and launched a training program to teach game development basics to new creators. During my final year of college, I worked as a backend engineer on a capstone project with Amazon, building AI-powered search tools in Python. I also hold an AWS Cloud Solutions Architect certification.

When you learn with me, you get a tutor who knows the material, uses it professionally every day, and has spent years helping students succeed. I’m patient, organized, and committed to helping you reach your goals, whether that’s passing a class, building your first program, or preparing for a career in tech.

About the lesson

About my lessons

I’m Zayd, a software engineer with a computer science degree. I teach algebra and Python, and I use what I do every day at work to make both subjects practical. Each lesson starts with the concept, then moves to worked examples and short exercises. Math problems are tied to real situations, and programming lessons build small, working programs so you can see each idea run.

Typical lesson

- A quick check of last week’s material
- A new concept, explained step by step
- Guided practice, where I work through problems with you
- Independent practice, followed by a review of any mistakes
- A recap and a clear goal for next time

What sets me apart

- Industry experience: I can show you how these skills are used in real software and real work, not just in textbooks.
- Clear explanations: I break hard ideas into smaller steps and check understanding before moving on.
- Flexible pace: lessons adjust to your speed, whether you’re catching up, preparing for an exam, or going deeper.

Who the lessons are for

- High school and college students who need help with algebra or want a stronger foundation in math
- Beginners who want to learn Python from scratch
- Adults changing careers or building technical skills
- Anyone who wants to move from basics to more advanced material
