About Fionnuala
Hi, my name is Fionnuala and I am a qualified Social Care and Alternative Education Facilitator specializing in Practicable Math Applications and English as a Second Language.
I have spent 3 years in Asia working and volunteering in alternative education schools who follow the GSCE curriculum but teach the content through engaging, contemporary and alternative means. All activities' were supported by books and carried out in person by the learners at hand. Activities' would include building giant size tetras boards to understand the idea of tessellations or carrying out interviews with fellow classmates to study different types of averages e.g. no. of siblings or letters in their names etc.
Overall, the approaches taken were very hands on and active but about slowly I started to turn to online learning and fallen in love the ability to connect with learners from all around the world.
Online lessons still aim to show the learners how useful and practical math is but through a different means. Online tutoring is now my full time commitment and I hope to continue this path for as long as possible. Thanks for reading.

Lessons are built for both primary school, lower and higher level Junior Certificate math students. The lessons aim to break down the information into simple steps and then apply the information to real life situations or examples for the learner to truly understand the application of the math puzzle and hopefully appreciate how it can be used in our every day or future lives. The lessons typically require one hour but of course will be adjusted to the ability and focus of the learner.
My experience is mainly in alternative educational settings where learners have access to many resources which facilitate their learnings journeys allowing them to physically see how the math is used in every day activities' e.g. cake recipe (ratios), sales and discounts (percentages), battleship the game (graphs and bearings).
Over the last year, I have switched to online learning facilitating both native and second language learners through their math journey. This has been very enjoyable and successful and I am very excited to take on new students and watch them grow over time. Hopefully one of these students can be you. Thanks for reading, see you soon.
