I have a passion for language, literature and theatre. One of my strongest skills is my way with words. A lot of which was refined through my engagement with English Lit back in high school. I use similar skills in law, in stand-up, and in the way I communicate in various capacities. Through that, I can attest that these skills will serve you well beyond getting good grades on an english lit exam. I have a very blunt, upfront and practical approach that I believe will help you develop the skills you need to tackle the exams. [The theatre bit is self evident, but again I can also help with the writing component for IB Theatre - which makes up a significant portion of how your coursework is actually assessed] The same goes for sixth form level subject equivalents.

I found out I had ADHD only after high school. The good grades I achieved were the result of learning to learn effectively to make up for my procrastination habits. I called it 'lazy learning'. But I'd inadvertently been practicing the Pareto principle (80/20 rule) for most of my life. I had to learn to write concisely because I simply do not possess the ability to write as quickly as my peers. In writing clear, structured answers - my gaps in knowledge became more apparent - it's a simple fix from there - find that knowledge and commit it to memory. Most people hide their lack of understanding and knowledge in a sea of superfluous words and convoluted sentences. - Be that 5% who doesn't end up with thousands of words over the word count for an essay because you didn't pad it with unnecessary fluff.

I'll teach you to learn and strategise by thinking in reverse from the end product.

Take an English Lit Essay for Example:
Instead of I read these texts and memorised all this content and I am going to regurgitate what is relevant to the way I am being tested and hope for the best... lets think in terms of:

I need to answer this exam question.

How can I construct a sentence that answers this question directly but uses as little words as possible? - This is your thesis. (There is a separate approach here for tackling exams and for learning which I will go through with you) (Note that this is not a hard and fast rule - if you need two / three sentences to do this then so be it.)

How do I organise the knowledge I have in a way that supports the point I have made?

I find that teachers tend not to focus on this enough because it is not really a focus that is singled out by exam rubrics, but it is a grave oversight to neglect this: You must come up with points that directly answer the question. Not touch on an element the question wants you to discuss, or a vague concept that is somewhat relevant - no - if you can't come up with three distinct points
You come up with distinct points by being specific and detailed. - That will often times require you to do some form of analysis and curation on the spot. You don't need to look for new content or knowledge to answer these questions.

Do not use AI to analyse the question. You can do so after you have made a solid attempt - that is when AI might be able to give you additional ideas, and learn to implement them on future tries - I will teach you what further uses AI has in this context

Your point gives your paragraph purpose and direction. If your point if merely a murky attempt at talking about something that seems somewhat relevant to the question, then the rest of your paragraph will be an aimless mess of information that adds to the murkiness. Com

- There are a few different ways that you can use to come up with points. I will guide you through this process.

You don't need new content or knowledge to answer most questions. It's simply a matter of reorganising the literary focus of the knowledge you already hold. But once you learn to apply a substance over form analysis of an exam question, you'll be unfazed by most questions. You'll realise that some of the scary looking questions are actually so vague that it allows you to regurgitate most of your content without much editing - save for a creative point that answers the question at the start of each paragraph. (This is especially true for IB English written exams. I can go through with you what to expect from the range of questions, why, and how to use this to your advantage once you develop the requisite skills)

Also note that I will not be giving you the answers. I will guide you to find the answers. Apart from providing examples of how something might be done, I will not help you come up with the 'right way' or the 'correct answer'. (You will develop one of your own that best suits your needs.)

A core reason for this is: I have a very unique writing style. Considering that I review a lot of coursework, if I provided answers for every kid, there might be plagiarism concerns.

You won't develop the skills you need if I provide you with the answer. I'm not going to bother tracking if you use AI. It's your journey.

But if I find some obvious tells of careless AI use - we'll talk about how I deal with that when the time comes. But I won't be spending time giving Chat GPT feedback.

About the lesson

I will teach you the best way to use AI to make your learning and exam prep more efficient

This is my process:
1. Start with telling me:
a) your goal,
b) what you think you struggle with, and
c) what kind of guidance you are looking for (if you have some idea of this)
d) any crucial deadlines
[e.g. a lot of people just want coursework review - and I can give you a quote depending on how long I will spend on it and req for subsequent reviews / urgency and timings etc. | Teach you how to enhance stage presence / presentation skills
2. I will get back to you with a proposal on what I can help you with and the best method for conducting tutoring, what we can do for a trial run. (I take on many students who need a last minute crash course before an exam or crucial coursework essay review help) This will include a 30 min free assessment of your current knowledge and skill level. Please prepare a scanned copy of a recent essay that you wrote. [Including the questions, and relevant source texts]
** I wrote out an example of how I guide you to approach exam questions in english lit under my about you section. I believe that you give you a very good idea of what my approach will be like.

English Lit:
- Refer to 'About You' section for detailed example.
- I can teach concise writing - which helps slow writers and those who need help with maximising a word count in coursework (Get rid of superfluous words)
- Learning to break down questions, come up with points that actually answer the question (many lose sight of this while trying to cram in all the knowledge they memorised)
- Understanding how incorporating context into essays actually work
- I can help you mark up and give you multiple rounds of feedback for your coursework
- Teach you how to analyse plays - pro tip: if you don't like reading plays - go watch a production of it - I'd recommend watching two different productions of the play (as vastly different as possible - .e.g. comparing a production of Othello by Frantic Assembly and National Theatre)
- Building a strategy for what to memorise for your final exams
- I can also review your presentations and give you presentation tips
- If you are willing to put in the work I have been able to help with jumping bands for final exams through intensive focus on finding the right approach to answering essay questions - essentially learning to maximise your score with the knowledge you already have by changing the way you construct your answers.

Theatre:
- I can easily help with the RP - this is simple
In my own experience, I saw this as an opportunity to channel my artistic leanings through structured research and creative projects. I found it difficult at times to navigate certain fields of interest that were less conventional and ensuring that it was distilled adequately to meet the exam requirements - and it really helped to have varied perspectives chip in, from peers, seniors, to seasoned professionals we were lucky to get guidance from.

Here's my expertise:
- I know a lot about immersive theatre - I've experienced and interacted with Punchdrunk; Punchdrunk Enrichment; You Me Bum Bum Train (8 months helping with production)

- Ongoing interest and engagement with avant garde theatre. Particularly audience interaction in theatre, physical theatre, total theatre, use of multimedia, verbatim theatre, political theatre - knowledge of many devising theatre companies.

During my studies I explored:
