About Marco

I have been a part-time tutor and teacher's assistant for several years, however I have been involved in tutoring since I was a peer tutor in high school. I was born in Mexico City, and I speak and know how to teach spoken English, Spanish, and French. I also have a high understanding of Latin, Italian, and modern Greek. Due to my work in college as a classical literature student I am very well-versed in American and European literature, as well as Mesoamerican and South American Literature. I am very passionate about learning and teaching, my goal in teaching is to have students get a thorough understanding of the subject matter while at the same time helping them see the fun and the importance of learning another language. Having students focus and be entertained in the classroom is an incredibly important part of the learning process, and as a teacher I pride myself on my ability to keep student's attention on the subject matter, while allowing us to talk about things they might want to focus on, so long as it relates to the class.

About the lesson

My class usually consists of a couple of different parts, at the beginning of class I like to have students bring in a new song or a movie in the language we are learning, for example when I was teaching spoken English in Mexico City, we would learn English pronunciation via Taylor Swift. Following that, I have students work on a worksheet that I prepared for them, or have them do a speaking exercise. This exercise can take many forms, including conversations with other students or with me. Moving on from that I like to have some time before closing up class to see if students have any work from class they want some help with, an essay or a worksheet or corrections from a test. I have experience teaching mostly high school students and middle school students, although I have worked with adults in a couple of rare cases, however I am more adept at teaching current students. Usually I do better with students who are eager to learn but have a hard time engaging in a classroom, I have an easy time getting them to open up more in a less public setting where they can express themselves more clearly.
