About Althea
Music connects people through sound and performance. I have taught 403 students over 11 years of dedicated instruction.
My teaching philosophy relies on building strong fundamentals for every individual learner. Sight playing is a core pillar of my curriculum.
Hand independence is essential. Music theory creates a deeper understanding of the keys.
Dynamics and expression define the emotion in a piece. Pedaling technique and memorization techniques are vital tools. Accompaniment skills are the main goal for my singers. You deserve a coach who understands the keyboard from a vocalist perspective.

Starting piano does not require prior knowledge of reading music. A free trial lesson to map out goals allows us to build a custom roadmap. Many students assume they must play classical repertoire to gain skills. I prioritize accompaniment skills that support your voice while you play.
We explore hand independence and dynamics to create a fuller sound. This method turns your keyboard into a flexible partner for your performance. Your progress is the primary measure of my success as a coach.
