About Ailis

Hi! My name is Ailís Fitzgerald and I am a Gaeilge and Geography graduate of the University of Galway, where I completed a Level 8 Bachelor of Arts degree and achieved a 2:1 overall.
As part of my final year of my undergraduate degree, I completed a dissertation on how climate change affects farming and tourism in the Burren, and I received a 1:1 grade for it. This involved a strong research element, including gathering and analyzing information in depth, and strengthened my academic writing, critical thinking, and communication skills.
I have strong experience in both learning and teaching Irish through real-life immersion. I spent three months in a Gaeltacht area, which greatly improved my fluency, confidence, and understanding of everyday spoken Irish. I also completed a three-month teaching placement in a Gaelscoil, gaining valuable classroom experience working with students in an Irish-speaking environment.
I am currently in my first year of the PME (Professional Master of Education) at the University of Galway, training to become a secondary school teacher. As part of the PME, I am currently placed in a secondary school where I am gaining hands-on experience teaching and supporting students in a real classroom environment. This is helping me build strong skills in lesson planning, teaching methods, classroom management, and adapting explanations to suit different learning styles and ability levels.

About the lesson

My aim is to make students feel confident, supported and well-prepared for exams. I teach in a clear and structured way, but I always adapt lessons to suit each student’s learning style and goals. I focus on building strong foundations first, and then improving exam technique and results over time.
