• 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

  I am a native Russian speaker. I studied English as a foreign language at school. I started learning Spanish on my own because of my great love for the language and Spanish culture.

• 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  Russian culture is rich in the works of great writers and poets. It is thanks to world famous writers such as Mikhail Lermontov, Alexander Pushkin, Mikhail Bulgakov, Fyodor Dostoevsky and many others that Russian literature has gained a place of honour on the international scene.

• 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

  I especially like the Russian language because of its large number of synonyms. Means of speech expression are diverse. Any thought can be expressed very precisely thanks to the Russian language.

• 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  Russian is my native language, the language of my country, my childhood and my family. It is important for me to know this language perfectly, although of course it is impossible. Because the Russian language is immense.

• 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  This topic has long been a joke on the Internet. Many Russian people make a lot of mistakes in speaking and writing. Russian spelling can be difficult to figure out, even for an experienced schoolteacher. The inflection of numerals remains difficult to understand, even for native Russian speakers. Russian participles and derivatives, cases and declensions remain a nightmare even for Russian pupils.

• 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  Preparing for the final Russian language exam was a fascinating time. I remember the teachers typing up huge lists of word exceptions to the pronunciation rules for us. I studied those exceptions and thought about how difficult it was for foreigners who decided to learn the language.

• 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  On my journey along the Kama River, I visited Vyborg, Khokhlovka and Russian villages. I got acquainted not only with the culture and everyday life of the Russian people, but also with the Russian language. Our speech has changed over the last century. This is due to the great borrowing of foreign words. That is why it was very important to hear the original Russian speech and get to know the Russian culture.

  I do not stop learning. Reading, paying attention to the written text helps to strengthen my knowledge of the language.
