About Evanthia
I am a language educator and the founder of the ALATA IC METHOD, a personalised educational approach dedicated to developing comprehension skills across Romance languages.
My academic background includes studies in Italian and Spanish Language and Literature at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, with a specialisation in Italian Language.
I also hold a Master's degree in Adult Education from the Hellenic Open University (Greece), where I completed my postgraduate dissertation on intercomprehension among Romance languages and its applications in adult language education.
My academic training combines Romance language studies, linguistics, adult learning theories and research into intercomprehension. This interdisciplinary background has provided the foundation for the development of my own teaching approach, the ALATA IC METHOD.
I am particularly interested in the connections between languages, literature, music and culture, and in how these connections can facilitate meaningful and engaging learning experiences.
My teaching philosophy is based on recognising and building upon each learner's existing linguistic knowledge, personal experiences, interests and individual learning goals.
I aim to create a supportive and intellectually stimulating learning environment where students develop confidence in understanding unfamiliar languages, particularly Italian, without the immediate pressure to speak or write them.

Understand Italian through Intercomprehension – The ALATA IC METHOD
Have you ever wondered how much Italian you could understand without having formally studied the language?
My teaching approach is based on Intercomprehension across Romance Languages, an innovative educational approach that helps learners understand unfamiliar languages by drawing on their existing linguistic knowledge.
I have conducted postgraduate academic research on intercomprehension among Romance languages, and I have developed the ALATA IC METHOD, a personalised approach to language comprehension.
My teaching methodology
Every learning journey begins with an individual assessment (IC Mapping), during which I explore your linguistic background, learning needs, interests and goals.
Based on this assessment, I design a fully personalised learning programme focusing on:
Recognising similarities and connections between Romance languages.
Developing reading and listening comprehension skills.
Understanding vocabulary, grammatical structures and linguistic patterns.
Applying strategies to interpret unfamiliar texts and spoken language.
Exploring authentic materials, including literature, music, poetry, dialogues and cultural content.
My lessons focus on understanding rather than speaking or writing. You will discover how much you can comprehend by using the linguistic knowledge you already possess.
Lesson duration
Lessons typically last 60 minutes and take place online. The duration and frequency can be adapted to individual learning needs.
Who are my lessons for?
My lessons are designed for adult learners, from beginners to more advanced language users, particularly those who already have some knowledge of Spanish, French, Portuguese or another Romance language.
They are especially suitable for people who wish to understand Italian for travel, work, academic purposes, cultural interests or personal enrichment.
My philosophy
You do not need to speak someone else's language to begin understanding it.
