About Katy
Precision in tone production and intonation defines the foundation of my teaching practice. I recall the quiet focus of the orchestra pit during my time with the Canadian Opera Company, where every note demanded absolute clarity. Having studied violin since age 5 and held a Bachelor of Music from the University of Toronto, I have refined my approach over 13 years of instruction.
My background includes mastering complex left hand agility and rhythmic timing, which I now translate into clear, actionable advice for my students. Scales and arpeggios provide the scaffolding for a beautiful sound, and I find great joy in watching a student find their voice through these exercises. Classical repertoire offers endless discovery, and teaching students to interpret these works is truly satisfying. It is rewarding to guide a student through the nuances of orchestral playing until the music feels entirely their own.
