About Aimee

I believe it is important when it comes to doing well in school to focus on what is going well, so those habits continue to be ingrained. While using what needs to be worked on, as just that, a place to work on and grow from; but it should never be looked at negatively.

I believe in making and using SMART Goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound) & that we should never set ourselves up for failure by trying to get somewhere too fast.

Baby steps is the name of the game - and by building a foundation slowly in the basics in junior high/middle school, you will be set up for success in high school and university.

My background:
I used to tutor grades 6-9 when I was in high school.
I completed 7 years of university because I switched degrees halfway through - but that means I understand how education is a journey.

I am very artistic as well, and musically inclined (I produce and DJ electronic music); so I also understand what it is like to have passions that are not strictly school-related - and that it can be hard to decide where to place your time. I believe in making time for those things that you love. It is just a matter of finding a way to have balance; and tutoring can help with that.

About the lesson

I am registered nurse who fell in love with learning from teaching nursing students in the hospital.

I like to work with students in the following way:
1. find out what they know about a certain subject area
2. find out where they are strong academically / what learning strategies work for them - if they are aware
3. discuss what does not work for them
4. use this knowledge to inform how we will structure are learning
5. discuss the theory
6. learn application
7. Practice!
8. Review and practice some more!
9. learn how to check their work/discuss what teachers are looking for on exams, etc.
10. I believe in positive reinforcement and constructive criticism, and my lessons are always structured with this in mind.
11. The lessons are student specific and will be for grade 6-9.
