About Luna

Hello! I am Luna and I am currently a Registered Behavior Therapist and I used to be an assistant teacher! I have primarily always worked with the littles (Pre-K to first), I do have some experience with children in second to fifth grade. I currently work with autistic children ranging from pre-k to third. I have a passion for teaching and I even plan on homeschooling my son when he is old enough! I was an honors student every year in ELA as well as took college courses in English while in high school. I taught a bit of everything when I was an assistant teacher, however, I was able to teach and help many students with English, which I enjoyed. I do have prior experience tutoring during high school and college.

About the lesson

I teach using ABA principles and tailor all lessons to fit the needs of the individual I am teaching. I also use fun, colorful, striking lesson visuals to help keep the attention of younger learners, I also love to make lessons fun and engaging. Our first session, I will spend time getting to know and pair with the learner. Pairing is essential in ABA as this allows the learner to associate me with reinforcement and allows me to build instructional control with the learner. I will then do an assessment on the learner to see what they are struggling with so I can create a lesson plan. I will also interview the parent or guardian to understand what the parent expects and if there is anything else they’d like the child to work on. A typical lesson will include one or two topics which the child struggles on. I typically like to stay on the same topic until mastery. We will do things like a fun game at the beginning, a pretest (only when beginning the topic for the first time), I will then teach, and we will do multiple different interactive learning activities and a small quiz at the end of each session. I aim for mastery within 3-8 sessions, and a post test to ensure the learner has mastered the target. I also offer homework help. I only offer ELA services, this includes: Reading, writing, phonics, spelling, and grammar.
