About Catherine
I am an award-winning, recently retired college professor who was honored at the university level for my commitment to mentoring and teaching students served by our Disabilities Resource Center. I was recognized as the best overall instructor at my university and one of the top 3 in our state. Every student is successful, when we begin at the place where the student is (knowledge in short-term memory) and build on what they already understand. It is critical that I reinforce the idea that you can be or will be successful with this material. As I tell my students, "stuff/life happens". Life stuff can create significant stress and prevent students from doing their best work. If you are in this situation, please let me know and I can help you locate resources at your school/college/university to help support you through this situation. I want you to know that I am genuinely invested in your success as well as you as a person. When we establish a working relationship, we become an instructional team with one goal, your successful completion of the task and/or course. You will have access to me via ZOOM, email, and phone. With some effort and support from your instructor, your peers in your class, and me, you will find new confidence in yourself and your academic abilities! I look forward to working with you toward your academic goals and long-term success.

This is how I work with students: 1. In initial contact conversation, I chat with the student about their learning style, i.e. what kinds of learning environments promote success. Complete the sentence I learn best when the teacher/instructor ".......". 2. I request a copy of the course syllabus so I can gauge the level of work expected by the student's teacher/instructor along with the text that they are using. 3. I ask the student about their perceptions about their course. Do they think it is supposed to be difficult? Have they heard that the instructor is tough? (examples). Preconceived notions impact a student's attitude toward the course and thus their motivation for the coursework. 4. I then ask the students to tell me how they are feeling about the short term in the course so I can work with them in the initial session to fill in any gaps in prerequisite knowledge or computer/software skills needed to be successful in their course of study. 5. I will always provide my students with weblinks to good ancillary materials and videos that explain the major concepts covered as the more learning modalities used, the greater the chance of student success. 6. I will ask the student to share any challenges they may have with learning using "traditional" instruction (death by PowerPoint) and we will talk about alternative instructional methods. 7. I will set up short term goals (for the next week/lesson) for the student to work on and provide them with times for the next session. 8. I will make certain that the student knows how to reach me via phone and email should they have a problem when working through the assignment or online quiz for their course. 9. I will need a copy of the academic honesty policy for their school, college, or university so that the help I provide will not violate any institutional academic honesty policy. Students should not be penalized for asking for assistance, but tutors need to know where the line between assistance and completing an assignment for a student is for any given educational program. 10. Please know that I am dedicated to the success of every student I work with. I can provide interested parties with prior teaching evaluations as well as tutor rating and student comments. 11. I prefer to work via ZOOM face to face so that I can record our sessions and email the session along with a session transcript to you at the end of the session for you to review as you need to.

Catherine’s knowledge of experimental design and data analysis are second to none. She has helped numerous graduate students and faculty with their data collections, analyzes and statistical writing and publications. I wholeheartedly endorse her statistical abilities and she is a great colleague.
Dr. Gary T GreenDr. Teare Ketter is an amazing educator! She is not only knowledgeable and passionate about the content, but she gets to know her students on a personal level that encourages motivation and hard work. I had the pleasure of having her as a professor in undergrad and she became a mentor as I pursued a career in education. She is encouraging, kind, and truly loves teaching others.
Dr. C is an awesome teacher. She was always so patient with us, really working to make sure we did our best and understood the content. She made learning fun and always engaging and could reach every kind of student. I consider Dr. C to be a mentor as she helped guide me to the career I myself chose in teaching!
One of the best Professors I had during my studies at UGA. She is personable, hands on and genuinely cares about teaching. 10/10 would recommend her!
