About Yuvabuvani

I’ve recently completed my MSc in Finance and Economics at the London School of Economics, following a BA (Honours) in Economics from India, where I graduated with First Class equivalent results. I’ve spent the last few years combining academic research with hands-on teaching, from running weekly tutorials as a university Teaching Assistant to volunteering as an academic tutor for underprivileged students preparing for a scholarship exam. I enjoy breaking down quantitative subjects like economics, maths, and statistics into clear, manageable steps, and I genuinely like seeing a student go from confused to confident on a topic. Outside tutoring, I work on economic and policy research, which keeps my own subject knowledge sharp and current.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring and teaching:
My approach is to start by understanding where a student is genuinely stuck, rather than just working through the syllabus top to bottom. I ask students to walk me through their own attempt at a problem first, since that usually shows me exactly where the gap in understanding is, whether it’s a concept, a method, or just confidence. From there, I break the topic down into smaller steps, use worked examples close to what they’ll actually be tested on, and get them to redo similar problems independently before moving on. I also track common mistakes across sessions so I can design practice that targets a student’s specific weak points rather than generic revision.

Techniques and methodology:
I rely heavily on worked examples followed by guided practice, moving from me demonstrating a method, to doing a problem together, to the student solving one alone while I observe. For quantitative subjects like maths and economics, I focus on building intuition for why a method works, not just memorising steps, since that’s what helps students handle unfamiliar questions in exams. I also use short recap quizzes at the start of each session to reinforce what was covered previously.

Typical lesson length:
I typically run 60-90 minute sessions, which is enough time to review previous material briefly, work through new content, and finish with independent practice, without the student losing focus.

Qualifications and experience:
I’m a MSc Finance and Economics graduate from the London School of Economics, after a BA (Honours) in Economics with First Class equivalent results from India. I’ve taught in both formal and community settings: as a Teaching Assistant for Linear Algebra, I ran weekly tutorials for 50 students and tracked their performance to adjust my teaching; separately, I volunteered as an academic tutor at an NGO, providing weekly coaching in quantitative skills to 30 underprivileged students and designing lesson plans and mock assessments for a scholarship exam.

I teach economics, finance, and quantitative subjects including maths and economics, mainly for school-level students preparing for exams and undergraduate students needing support with coursework or foundational quantitative methods.
