About Leili

I am a recent college graduate from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA. I majored in Communication Studies and minored in Spanish. I am originally from Iran and obtained my education at European schools, which is why I am fluent in 5 languages. Through my multicultural background, I have recognized the importance of language and intersectionality when it comes to education. I believe that language exposes us to many societal and cultural factors that we normally may not have access to, which is why I prioritize it so much and enjoy teaching others who strive to learn. I am able to communicate with different groups of people and am never afraid to think outside the box. Learning a language takes courage and strength, which is something that I have not only learned throughout the years, but hope to help others tap into as well.

About the lesson

As an ex-student, I have had to learn many languages from scratch which have come with their own sets of challenges. With three years of experience in language tutoring, I have developed methods that help students learn a language in an independent manner, while still obtaining help and practice from me. As a Spanish minor, I have come to understand the ins and outs of a language as well as the importance of linguistics when it comes to second language acquisition. Through my education, I am able to utilize what I have learned to make learning easier for students and to help them understand why certain aspects of a language are the way they are.

I am very patient and see collaboration as an important part in the tutor-student relationship. I am always open to new ways to work with students, so as your tutor I would make sure that all your needs are being met in a correct manner.

With students, I try to incorporate language conversation practice, vocabulary practice, grammar overview, lessons on cultural aspects of the language, and also focus on some basic linguistic skills such as phonology, morphology, and syntax.

I have mostly worked with college students, which is why I have a rather advanced level of language tutoring experience. I am open to tutoring students from elementary school through high school, as well as the university level.
