About Sarah
After taking classes in American Sign Language, I knew that was only the beginning of the journey for me. I sought every chance to learn more about and get involved in the Deaf community. Some of my closest Deaf friends gave me my name sign (a really special component of ASL and Deaf culture we'll discuss during sessions!), and those friendships are ones I cherish.
It's so important to connect with people who have different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, because we learn empathy, and also find how much we have in common! The Deaf community is a different culture that lives as close as next door, and it has been overlooked for so long. Any chance to walk alongside someone as they learn more about this culture and language is a joy for me, and I look forward to helping you start that journey!

Looking for extra help on your journey learning American Sign Language? You've found the right person! During our time together, we'll use a variety of resources to help you become more informed about Deaf culture and comfortable with your signing. I can supplement any course materials being taken with additional videos, articles, websites, and more, or we can get you started learning ASL from scratch, providing you with all the resources you need to begin.
An understanding of Deaf culture is critically important in learning ASL. I'll introduce you to common topics, discussions, and facts in the Deaf community as we learn more about this incredible culture and its beautiful language.
PLEASE NOTE- I am a hearing individual. While I love helping others on their journey in ASL, please know how important it is to ultimately learn the language from the people who natively speak it. No one is a better educator of a language and culture than a native member of that culture. Because of this, I will encourage you to watch content by Deaf individuals, read the perspectives of Deaf individuals, and find ways to connect with the Deaf community.
