About Chloe

Hi! My name is Chloe, and I am a final-year PhD candidate in chemistry at Queen’s University, currently completing research abroad in France. My academic background focuses on analytical chemistry with forensic and environmental applications. Outside of research and teaching, I enjoy traveling, hiking, reading, and helping students build confidence in subjects that can sometimes feel intimidating at first.

I have over three years of teaching experience as a teaching assistant for first- and second-year chemistry courses at Queen’s University. Last year, I was honored to receive a teaching assistant award recognizing excellence among TAs in first-year chemistry courses. Through this role, I have worked closely with students to explain challenging concepts, guide problem-solving, and help build confidence in chemistry.

In addition to my university teaching experience, I have tutored both high school and university students over the past several years. My teaching approach is patient, supportive, and personalized to each student’s learning style and goals.

I understand how stressful chemistry courses can feel because I was once in the same position myself, trying to achieve the grades needed for university while working through subjects that did not always come naturally at first. I also know what it feels like to struggle without enough support or guidance. Because of this, I care deeply about creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace.

My goal is not only to help students improve academically, but also to help them build confidence, feel less overwhelmed by chemistry, and feel more prepared for future science courses and university studies.

About the lesson

I offer personalized online chemistry tutoring for Grade 11, Grade 12, and introductory university chemistry students. My approach is focused on identifying the specific topics students are currently learning in class so that each session is efficient and tailored to their needs.

Before each lesson, I ask students which concepts, assignments, or chapters they would like to review. Based on this, I then prepare customized materials (for students to annotate and bring home) that include key concepts, definitions, equations, summaries, worked examples, and practice problems. During lessons, we work through these concepts together step-by-step while focusing on problem-solving strategies and building confidence.

My goal is to help students understand the reasoning behind chemistry concepts rather than simply memorizing information. I adapt lessons depending on the student’s learning style and current level, whether they are preparing for exams, improving grades, or strengthening their understanding of chemistry fundamentals.

As a Queen’s University chemistry student, I aim to make chemistry approachable, organized, and less overwhelming for students.
