About Sarah-Joy
I possess fellowships from Vermont Studio Center, Indigenous Nations Poets, and Sundress Academy for the Arts, and was a resident at Tin House Workshop. My work has been published in Yellow Medicine Review, and Union Spring Literary Review. I am currently obtaining my MFA in Creative Writing at the University of South Florida as a graduate fellow.
I am a warm and professional tutor who is interested in providing a safe environment for students to receive real feedback that pushes their writing to the next level. I will never sugar-coat my feedback, but it will always remain kind and thoughtful.

Feeling stuck with your progress as a creative writer? My lesson plans engage in the workshop method, finding ways to improve your writing so that you are able to achieve publication in magazines, fellowship awards, and residencies.
My lessons involve outlining your goals, and week by week, workshopping the pieces you write to get them to the level where they are submission-ready.
My process is craft-focused, with thoughtful and detailed line-edit feedback. Each lesson will involve goal-setting, workshop, and creative writing generating exercises that you can continue outside the lesson. My goal is to help you think like a professional, serious writer who wants to push out real work that stands out. I will help you in developing your distinct voice, and highlight the specific techniques you can use to enhance your writing style. I offer editing, craft talks, and will generate lists of awards, magazines, and residencies that will match your personalized writing portfolio.
As a tutor, I am bringing my background as both an award-winning poet, and as a graduate instructor with over two years of experience teaching in college-level classrooms. I welcome students at any level who are interested in generating work that achieves publication success. I am especially interested in assisting students with books already in progress.
