About Queso
In my approach to tutoring, I prioritize a personalized and goal-oriented methodology that aligns with each student's unique aspirations and relationship with the subject matter. Whether the aim is to achieve higher grades, deepen understanding of core concepts, or explore knowledge beyond the classroom, I begin by establishing clear objectives for the term and understanding the student's perspective towards the topic. This initial step is crucial, as it informs whether we'll concentrate on mastering fundamental principles for academic success or engage in stimulating problem sets to provoke deeper thinking and application.
A typical lesson under my guidance follows a dynamic 20-80 structure. The first 20% of our time is dedicated to a thorough review of the concepts at hand, using a variety of teaching tools and methods to ensure clarity and comprehension. I make it a point to regularly check in with my students, not just academically but also to gauge their ongoing interest and engagement with the material.
The remaining 80% of our session is heavily focused on hands-on practice. Students tackle problems either from their coursework or specially designed by me to challenge their understanding and application of the subject. This practice-oriented approach encourages active learning, where students are not passive recipients of knowledge but active participants in their learning journey. I encourage them to engage deeply with their solutions, pushing them to justify their answers independently. This process is crucial for developing a strong intuition and the ability to critically assess their work, fostering a mindset of self-sufficiency and confidence in their problem-solving abilities.
My teaching philosophy centers on empowering students to become autonomous learners, capable of navigating complex problems with a robust foundation in STEM principles. By blending conceptual review with intensive problem-solving exercises, I aim to cultivate a learning environment where students are motivated to explore and apply concepts, building a lasting understanding and appreciation for the subject.
